Uruguay, Czech Republic & Hungary: Highlights from Hall 3

 

 

With just 2 months to go until the London Design Fair we share with you some highlights from hall 3. Showcasing new and returning countries alike, the central 1st ground floor location becomes an international hub for 2019 with pavilions from Uruguay, the Czech Republic and Hungary. Uruguay XXI
 
 
 
This September Uruguay XXI will join the London Design Fair with a celebration of its national design talent, curated by London-based Uruguayan designer, Matteo Fogale.

‘Poetic Forms: The work of Uruguayan poet Juana de Ibarbourou’ will see ten Uruguayan design studios and creatives distil the work of Juana de Ibarbourou into furniture, accessories and textiles in a celebration of one of Uruguay’s most-renowned creatives by a roster of Uruguay’s emerging design talent.

 

Muar Diseno

MUAR diseño is a multidisciplinary design studio founded by Federico Mujica and Carolina Arias, established in Montevideo, Uruguay. The duo manufacture lighting and furniture, Conecta (pictured) is inspired by matter, energy and the universe.

 


 

 
Hungary: Budapest Select

Brought to the Fair by the Hungarian Fashion & Design Agency (HFDA, Budapest Select exhibits idiosyncratic objects that surpass the pure representation of forms and materials. The project brings together a unique constellation reflecting on the layered intersection of design and art by showcasing objects in an unusual perspective. The way of placing the design works allows for fresh and exciting interpretations, as well as letting visitors immerse themselves in the peculiar creativity and design prowess of Hungarian designers.

Plydesign

Plydesign is an up and coming Hungarian furniture label built on extensive experience in manufacturing of moulded plywood. With 25 years of knowledge in this field supplying brands such as Vitra and Scandiform, the brand decided in 2017 to launch their own range, showing this September. 

 


 

Czech Republic: United Crafts of Bohemia

The United Crafts of Bohemia exhibition presents a curated selection of Czech brands representing a high-quality of craftsmanship that speaks to the countries heritage. Organised by the business agency Czech Trade and co-financed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the pavilion will showcase a mix of glass, lighting, furniture, and technology from leading brands. 

 

Ton

A truly heritage brand Ton feature as one of the 10 Czech companies showcasing as part of this new pavilion. Harking back to 1861, the brand (historically known as Thonet) create bent furniture using beech from the factories surrounding forests. The bending process strengthens the wood, creating durable pieces intended to be handed down through generations.
